Part Five. General Assembly resolution 55/25 751Convention will be operated within the United Nations Crime Prevention andCriminal Justice Fund, and encourages Member States to begin making adequatevoluntary contributions to the above-mentioned account for the provision to developingcountries and countries with economies in transition <strong>of</strong> the technical assistancethat they might require for implementation <strong>of</strong> the Convention and theprotocols thereto, including for the preparatory measures needed for that implementation;10. Also decides that the Ad Hoc Committee on the Elaboration <strong>of</strong> aConvention against Transnational Organized Crime will complete its tasks arisingfrom the elaboration <strong>of</strong> the United Nations Convention against TransnationalOrganized Crime by holding a meeting well before the convening <strong>of</strong> the first session<strong>of</strong> the Conference <strong>of</strong> the Parties to the Convention, in order to prepare thedraft text <strong>of</strong> the rules <strong>of</strong> procedure for the Conference <strong>of</strong> the Parties and otherrules and mechanisms described in article 32 <strong>of</strong> the Convention, which will becommunicated to the Conference <strong>of</strong> the Parties at its first session for considerationand action;11. Requests the Secretary-General to designate the Centre for<strong>International</strong> Crime Prevention <strong>of</strong> the United Nations Office for Drug Control andCrime Prevention to serve as the secretariat for the Conference <strong>of</strong> the Parties tothe Convention in accordance with article 33 <strong>of</strong> the Convention;12. Also requests the Secretary-General to provide the Centre for<strong>International</strong> Crime Prevention with the resources necessary to enable it to promotein an effective manner the expeditious entry into force <strong>of</strong> the United NationsConvention against Transnational Organized Crime and to discharge the functions<strong>of</strong> secretariat <strong>of</strong> the Conference <strong>of</strong> the Parties to the Convention, and to supportthe Ad Hoc Committee in its work pursuant to paragraph 10 above.Notes by the Secretariat3. Two technical amendments were made orally by the Chairman <strong>of</strong> the Ad HocCommittee at the fifty-fifth session <strong>of</strong> the General Assembly when introducing the draftresolution. The first amendment was in operative paragraph 3, where the words “summaryrecords” were replaced by the words “a comprehensive report”. The second amendment wasin operative paragraph 11, where the words “and under the direction <strong>of</strong>” were deleted andthe words “in accordance with article 33 <strong>of</strong> the Convention” were added at the end <strong>of</strong> theparagraph.
