A new text <strong>of</strong> article 13 resulting from the work <strong>of</strong> an informal drafting groupthat met during the sixth session <strong>of</strong> the Ad Hoc Committee read as follows:“Article 13“Legitimacy and validity <strong>of</strong> <strong>document</strong>s“States Parties shall, upon request by other States Parties and in accordance withthe domestic law <strong>of</strong> the requested State Party, verify within a reasonable time thelegitimacy and validity <strong>of</strong> travel or identity <strong>document</strong>s issued or purported to havebeen issued in the name <strong>of</strong> the requested State Party and suspected <strong>of</strong> being used inthe smuggling <strong>of</strong> migrants.”That revised text <strong>of</strong> the article was discussed at the informal consultations heldduring the ninth session <strong>of</strong> the Ad Hoc Committee, which recommended that it shouldbe adopted (see the draft text <strong>of</strong> the protocol contained in <strong>document</strong>A/AC.254/4/Add.1/Rev.6, in which the revised article was incorporated). It was notedthat the text <strong>of</strong> the article corresponded to article 9 bis <strong>of</strong> the draft trafficking inpersons protocol.3. At its eleventh session, the Ad Hoc Committee considered, finalized and approvedarticle 13, as amended. The last amendments are reflected in the final text <strong>of</strong> the protocol,as included in the report <strong>of</strong> the Ad Hoc Committee (A/55/383, sect. IV, draft resolution,annex III), that was submitted to the General Assembly for adoption pursuant toresolution 54/126 <strong>of</strong> 17 December 1999.B. Approved text adopted by the General Assembly(see resolution 55/25, annex III)Article 13Legitimacy and validity <strong>of</strong> <strong>document</strong>sAt the request <strong>of</strong> another State Party, a State Party shall, in accordance withits domestic law, verify within a reasonable time the legitimacy and validity <strong>of</strong>travel or identity <strong>document</strong>s issued or purported to have been issued in its nameand suspected <strong>of</strong> being used for purposes <strong>of</strong> conduct set forth in article 6 <strong>of</strong> <strong>this</strong>Protocol.
