At the informal consultations held during the fifth session <strong>of</strong> the Ad HocCommittee, it was suggested that the proposal <strong>of</strong> China (A/AC.254/L.52) for an article 7bis, entitled “Measures to eliminate trafficking in women and children [persons]” could beconsidered in the context <strong>of</strong> the present article, which was incorporated as article 10 inthe restructured <strong>version</strong> <strong>of</strong> the draft protocol proposed by Belgium, Poland and the UnitedStates (A/AC.254/5/Add.13).3. At the eighth session <strong>of</strong> the Ad Hoc Committee, the Office <strong>of</strong> the United NationsHigh Commissioner for Human Rights, the Office <strong>of</strong> the United Nations HighCommissioner for Refugees, the United Nations Children’s Fund and the <strong>International</strong>3At the sixth session <strong>of</strong> the Ad Hoc Committee, consensus was reached on adopting the text drafted by an informalworking group convened at the request <strong>of</strong> the Chairperson (A/AC.254/L.113) as the basis for further discussion <strong>of</strong> <strong>this</strong> article.Discussions on <strong>this</strong> text continued until the adjournment <strong>of</strong> the session and proposals up to that point are reflected inthe footnotes that follow.4At the sixth session <strong>of</strong> the Ad Hoc Committee, several delegations suggested deleting the square brackets. One delegationsuggested adding the words “to the extent possible” or “within available means”.5At the sixth session <strong>of</strong> the Ad Hoc Committee, one delegation suggested deleting the words “as appropriate”.6At the sixth session <strong>of</strong> the Ad Hoc Committee, several delegations suggested that the words “and combat” shouldbe added in order to be consistent with subparagraph (a) <strong>of</strong> paragraph 1.7At the sixth session <strong>of</strong> the Ad Hoc Committee, Switzerland suggested that <strong>this</strong> paragraph should also refer to protectingtrafficked persons from revictimization in order to be consistent with subparagraphs (a) and (b) <strong>of</strong> paragraph 1.Switzerland also suggested expanding the title accordingly.8At the sixth session <strong>of</strong> the Ad Hoc Committee, several delegations expressed the view that the words “other relevantorganizations” should be clarified.
