Part One. Article 37 299Notes by the Secretariat3. At its tenth session, the Ad Hoc Committee considered, finalized andapproved article 26 bis, as amended. The last amendments are reflected in the finaltext <strong>of</strong> the convention, as included in the report <strong>of</strong> the Ad Hoc Committee (A/55/383,sect. IV, draft resolution, annex I), that was submitted to the General Assembly foradoption pursuant to resolution 54/126 <strong>of</strong> 17 December 1999.B. Approved text adopted by the General Assembly(see resolution 55/25, annex I)Article 37Relation with protocols1. This Convention may be supplemented by one or more protocols.2. In order to become a Party to a protocol, a State or a regional economicintegration organization must also be a Party to <strong>this</strong> Convention.3. A State Party to <strong>this</strong> Convention is not bound by a protocol unless itbecomes a Party to the protocol in accordance with the provisions there<strong>of</strong>.4. Any protocol to <strong>this</strong> Convention shall be interpreted together with <strong>this</strong>Convention, taking into account the purpose <strong>of</strong> that protocol.Notes by the Secretariat4. A separate article on the relation <strong>of</strong> the convention “with other conventions” wasalso discussed in the context <strong>of</strong> the negotiation process up to the tenth session <strong>of</strong> the AdHoc Committee and was included in the corresponding drafts <strong>of</strong> the convention (as article24). Finally, at the tenth session <strong>of</strong> the Ad Hoc Committee, it was decided that <strong>this</strong> articleshould be deleted. However, the objective <strong>of</strong> the present publication is to provide a completepicture <strong>of</strong> the negotiations on the content <strong>of</strong> the convention, irrespective <strong>of</strong> which provisionswere finally included in the approved text.
