Takes note with appreciation <strong>of</strong> the report <strong>of</strong> the Ad Hoc Committee onthe Elaboration <strong>of</strong> a Convention against Transnational Organized Crime submittingthe text <strong>of</strong> the draft United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crimeto the General Assembly for its consideration and action, and commends the Ad HocCommittee for its work;“2. Adopts the United Nations Convention against Transnational OrganizedCrime annexed to the present resolution, and opens it for signature at the high-levelpolitical signing conference, to be held in Palermo from 11 to 15 December 2000,in accordance with resolution 54/129;“3. Decides that, until the Conference <strong>of</strong> the Parties established pursuant tothe Convention decides otherwise, the account specifically designated for the purpose<strong>of</strong> receiving voluntary contributions from States parties to provide technical assistanceto developing countries and countries with economies in transition to assistthem in meeting their needs in relation to the implementation <strong>of</strong> the Convention willbe operated within the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Fund;“4. Requests the Secretary-General to designate the Centre for <strong>International</strong>Crime Prevention <strong>of</strong> the Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention <strong>of</strong> theSecretariat to serve as the secretariat for and at the direction <strong>of</strong> the Conference <strong>of</strong>the Parties established by the Convention;“5. Urges all States to sign and ratify the Convention as soon as possible inorder to ensure the speedy entry into force <strong>of</strong> the Convention;“6. Urges donor countries to begin making adequate voluntary contributionsto the account mentioned in paragraph 3 above for the provision <strong>of</strong> technical assistanceto developing countries and countries with economies in transition, which theymight require in preparation for the ratification <strong>of</strong> the Convention;“7. Requests the Secretary-General to provide the Centre for <strong>International</strong>Crime Prevention with the resources necessary to enable it to promote in an effectivemanner the expeditious entry into force <strong>of</strong> the Convention and to discharge thefunctions <strong>of</strong> secretariat <strong>of</strong> the Conference <strong>of</strong> the Parties.”Revised draft resolution submitted by the Chairman (A/AC.254/L.224/Rev.1)Notes by the Secretariat1.
