Area <strong>of</strong> additional D&D space to meet the “one-for-one” requirement 600,000<br />

<strong>The</strong> construction <strong>of</strong> UPF will add approximately 400,000 square feet <strong>of</strong> new facilities to the Y-12<br />

footprint and will replace functions in all or parts <strong>of</strong> the following facilities within the Y-12 Complex:<br />

Areas <strong>of</strong> Building 9212 that house EU casting and EU chemical processing operations;<br />

Areas <strong>of</strong> Building 9215 and 9998 that house EU metal working, EU machining operations and<br />

inspection, and<br />

Building 9204-2E which houses Assembly, Disassembly/ Dismantlement, Quality<br />

Evaluation and Product Certification operations.<br />

<strong>The</strong> final decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) and demolition <strong>of</strong> these areas are not<br />

considered a part <strong>of</strong> the UPF project.<br />

<strong>The</strong> D&D <strong>of</strong> Building 9212 is included in the Integrated Facility Disposition Project (IFDP) which is<br />

currently being proposed by the Environmental Management (EM) Program, DOE Oak Ridge<br />

Operations Office, Y-12 and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to dispose <strong>of</strong> legacy facilities at<br />

both Y-12 and the ORNL. Building 9215 and 9998 will not become immediately or completely excess<br />
