will continue during <strong>FY</strong> <strong>2012</strong>.<br />

• MOX Other Project Cost<br />

<strong>The</strong> MOX OPC Activities support project activities such as management oversight, design<br />

reviews, facility start-up, testing and licensing. <strong>The</strong> <strong>FY</strong> <strong>2012</strong> activities include continuing<br />

management oversight and licensing activities as well as planning for start-up and operation <strong>of</strong><br />

the MFFF along with safety, security, and physical protection activities. <strong>The</strong> OPC will continue<br />

to fund the design and testing support <strong>of</strong> the aqueous polishing process located at the front end<br />

<strong>of</strong> the MOX facility, environmental permitting, and the monitoring and support for the Nuclear<br />

Regulatory Commission (NRC) review <strong>of</strong> the possession and use-license application for the<br />

MFFF. In addition, OPC funds will support ramp-up <strong>of</strong> operating start-up staffing and related<br />

training, NNSA oversight, and additional NRC inspection levels.<br />

• MOX Operating Expenses<br />

<strong>The</strong> MOX Operating Expenses support activities associated with hot start-up testing and<br />

operations <strong>of</strong> the MFFF. <strong>FY</strong> <strong>2012</strong> activities include efforts to maintain the hot start-up bases <strong>of</strong><br />

estimate and schedule, including analysis and review <strong>of</strong> changes. Additionally, funds will<br />

support the costs associated with background investigations and security clearances for MOX<br />

operators.<br />

• Waste Solidification Building<br />

(WSB) (OPC) 7,000 21,500 23,345<br />

<strong>The</strong> WSB OPC funding supports planning for facility operations (development <strong>of</strong> operating<br />

procedures and training program), program development activities (start-up testing, spare parts,<br />

emergency preparedness), waste management planning (development <strong>of</strong> waste compliance<br />

plans), interface management, and use <strong>of</strong> the Smart Plant foundation database (a s<strong>of</strong>tware<br />

relationship management tool that provides the capability to transition engineering/project<br />

documents from design/construction/testing to eventual operations while maintaining<br />

requirements and configuration control).<br />
