Naval Reactors<br />

<strong>The</strong> broad spectrum <strong>of</strong> Bettis’ activities has included work on core and component technology and<br />

design, thermal and hydraulic systems, materials, and nuclear physics. Also, Bettis has lead<br />

responsibility for the overall training program for Navy personnel in nuclear plant operations, including<br />

training at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Charleston, South Carolina; the Moored<br />

Training Ships; and Fleet training. Bettis also maintains engineering field <strong>of</strong>fices at numerous shipyards<br />

and core contractor facilities, and operates the Expended Core Facility at the Naval Reactors Facility<br />

near Idaho Falls, Idaho.<br />

In <strong>FY</strong> <strong>2012</strong>, Bettis will continue manufacturing development and demonstration work, as well as<br />

development <strong>of</strong> new core technologies, <strong>of</strong> the reactor plant to be used in the land-based prototype<br />

refueling overhaul. In addition, conceptual design and NEPA efforts in support <strong>of</strong> the Spent Nuclear<br />

Fuel Infrastructure Recapitalization program at the Naval Reactors Facility in Idaho will continue.<br />
