(4) Development Studies/Capability Improvements: conduct feasibility studies as<br />

required in conjunction with the DoD, execute design and testing replacement activities<br />

for the NG.<br />

W88 Stockpile Systems 42,743 45,666 75,728<br />

<strong>The</strong> W88 is a strategic warhead in the SLBM force. <strong>The</strong> United States Navy deploys this<br />

weapon on the Trident II (D5) Strategic Weapon System.<br />

In accordance with National Requirements Documents and/or Directive Schedules, <strong>FY</strong> <strong>2012</strong><br />

mission scope includes:<br />

(1) Weapon Maintenance: produce LLCs/perform LLCEs on GTSs and NGs as required;<br />

execute repair, maintenance, and replacement <strong>of</strong> aging weapon components;<br />

(2) Weapon Surveillance: conduct surveillance activities to provide the National<br />

Laboratory Directors with robust state-<strong>of</strong>-health nuclear weapon data necessary to<br />

complete Weapon Reliability and Annual Assessment Reports, to include: disassembly<br />

and inspection, system-level laboratory and joint flight testing, component and material<br />

evaluations, and platform compatibility and testing activities;<br />

(3) Weapon Assessment and Support: conduct weapon assessment and certification<br />

activities necessary to complete Weapon Reliability and Annual Assessment Reports, to<br />

include: laboratory/site testing and analysis, trainer refurbishments, and POG and DoD<br />

safety studies, significant finding investigations; and<br />

(4) Development Studies/Capability Improvements: conduct feasibility studies as<br />

required in conjunction with the DoD, provide laboratory and management expertise to<br />

the POG and DoD Safety Studies, continue W88 AF&F development efforts (including<br />

consideration <strong>of</strong> commonality with the W78 and collaboration with the United<br />

Kingdom), complete design and pre-production efforts necessary to begin production in<br />

<strong>FY</strong> 2018, accomplish LLCE (GTS and NG) and AF&F work at Pantex.<br />
