<strong>Congressional</strong> Items <strong>of</strong> Interest: Construction <strong>of</strong> the Mixed-Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility and the<br />

related facilities in support <strong>of</strong> U.S. plutonium disposition activities.<br />

Major Changes and Shifts: <strong>The</strong> request for Readiness Campaign funding increases to support the<br />

increase <strong>of</strong> tritium production from 240 TPBARs per cycle to 544 TPBARs per cycle; capital projects at<br />

the Tritium Extraction Facility (TEF) for repairs and improvements; and for initial procurement and<br />

installation preparations for the large water management tank at TVA’s Watts Bar reactor.<br />

INTRODUCTION:<br />

Site Description<br />

<strong>The</strong> Savannah River Site (SRS) spans approximately 310 square miles bordering the Savannah River in<br />

western South Carolina. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> Environmental Management is the site<br />

landlord. <strong>The</strong> Savannah River Site is designated as a National Environmental Research Park and covers<br />

a small portion <strong>of</strong> Aiken, Barnwell, and Allendale counties.<br />

<strong>The</strong> SRS Tritium Facilities, which occupy a portion <strong>of</strong> the total site, are supporting the National Nuclear<br />

Security Administration (NNSA) Stockpile Stewardship and Stockpile Evaluation programs, and are<br />

executing a plan to meet the challenges <strong>of</strong> the future through the following core missions:<br />
