The Dip[oma in Horticu[ture (Production - Viticulture) provides students with the<br />

skills and abilities appropriate to meet the needs <strong>of</strong> the viticulture industry. The<br />

elective units make up the substantive course content and will develop the<br />

essential specific skills required to produce quality grapes. [ncluded is an<br />

introduction to wine analysis, evaluation and production. The essential units are<br />

designed to develop the students' generic workplace skills, so highly valued by<br />

employers. These include understanding industry and health and safety<br />

requirements, working in teams and communication skills. Collecting, analysing<br />

and organising information, solving problems and using technology are also<br />

important attributes for employees in the viticulture industry. These key<br />

competencies, along with others, are integrated into the [earning and practical<br />

activities.This course is suitable for those people who are already working in the<br />

viticulture industry and wish to upgrade or gain pr<strong>of</strong>essional qualifications. [t is<br />

also suitable for those who wish to enter the wine industry (perhaps se[femployed)<br />

and emp[oyrnent opportunities are availab[e at operator or supervisor<br />

level in the viticulture industry.<br />

Aims & Objectives<br />

The Dip[oma in Horticu[ture (Production - Viticulture) is designed to enable<br />

students to:<br />

Deve[op technical and practical skills to enable the student to establish,<br />

operate, supervise and maintain a commercial vineyard producing quality<br />

grapes and wine.<br />

Deve[op essential generic workplace skil[s and key competencies.<br />
