(Tertiary Preparation for Adults)<br />
This course is a special bridging program for a small group <strong>of</strong> students that has<br />
the specific aim <strong>of</strong> preparing them for subsequent entry into a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts or<br />
Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Business degree program. The choice <strong>of</strong> subjects also allows students<br />
to gain substantial credits into the Diplomas in Social Science (Communication),<br />
Justice and Liberal Arts.<br />

Career opportunities<br />
Successful completion <strong>of</strong> the program enables students to apply for entry into the<br />
social science, humanities or business degree program <strong>of</strong>fered by universities.<br />
The course also provides the opportunity for direct automatic entry into Social<br />
Science and Humanities degrees at the Hawthorn campus <strong>of</strong> <strong>Swinburne</strong>. Students<br />
may also choose to enter any <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Swinburne</strong> <strong>TAFE</strong> courses. Programs<br />
preparatory to the Tertiary Preparation program are available if required.<br />
Course duration<br />
One semester full-time or two semesters part-time.<br />
Structure<br />
Full-time students are required to enrol in five units <strong>of</strong> study. Each unit has four<br />
hours <strong>of</strong> contact time per week. The program is conducted for seventeen weeks.<br />
Part-time students are required to enrol in one or two units <strong>of</strong> the program each<br />
semester. Students enrolled on this basis would complete the program after two<br />
or more semesters. Classes for both part and fUll-time students are <strong>of</strong>fered during<br />
the day and in the evening<br />

There are no formal entry requirements. The program aims to attract students<br />
from a variety <strong>of</strong> backgrounds. In particular the course is geared to cater for<br />
mature-age persons wishing to gain entry into a degree, who do not have a Year<br />
12 or equivalent.<br />

a personal history and a Statement <strong>of</strong> Purpose regarding their proposed entry into<br />
a tertiary program. Subsequent interviews are arranged with the course coordinator.<br />

This course provides a structured and disciplined environment for would-be<br />
writers, interaction with like-minded students and an understanding <strong>of</strong> the<br />
