VISUAL ART<br />

This is a progressive contemporary fine art program run by artists for artists.<br />
Painting, sculpture, drawing, photography and printmaking are studied. Video and<br />
digital imaging subjects are also available at the Prahran campus. Theory study<br />
areas feature conceptual and stylistic strategies <strong>of</strong> art practices since the 1960's<br />
and includes gallery visits in Melbourne and Sydney.<br />
Aims & Objectives<br />
This course aims to:<br />
Train students in key areas <strong>of</strong> fine art to enable self employment<br />
opportunities in the visual arts industry.<br />
Develop sound practices through multidisciplinary modes <strong>of</strong> study.<br />
Develop aesthetic, social, environmental and ethical concepts and processes<br />
necessary to a satisfying personal philosophy and sound pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
attitude.<br />
Enable students to participate in the arts industry and to be aware <strong>of</strong> the role<br />
<strong>of</strong> artists in society.<br />

traditional practices converge with new video and digital technologies.<br />
Course duration<br />
Two years full-time or equivalent part-time.<br />
Healesville: part-time study only.<br />
Structure<br />
The course is delivered mainly as practical studio based subjects and in lecture<br />
and tutorial modes. This delivery is structured around a series <strong>of</strong> generic and<br />
compulsory subjects together with electives, major and minor studies distributed<br />
over two years <strong>of</strong> full-time study.<br />
To obtain the qualification <strong>of</strong> Diploma <strong>of</strong> Arts (Visual Arts) students must<br />
successfully complete:<br />
All seven identified generic subjects.<br />
All compulsory subjects.<br />
Two levels <strong>of</strong> a discipline e.g. painting Levels 1 & 2.<br />
Two modules in a discipline at Levels 1 & 2, other than their major stream for<br />
each elective level.<br />
Two levels <strong>of</strong> a major study in a discipline, i.e. painting, printmaking,<br />
sculpture <strong>of</strong> photography.<br />
Two levels <strong>of</strong> a minor study in a different discipline to the major study.<br />
