Certificate II in Electronics<br />

The Certificate II in Electronics provides vocational training for people interested<br />

in a career in the electronics and computer industries. It is suitable for basic<br />

production tasks, sales and distribution work. Employment outcome will typically<br />

be a technical assistant performing routine assembly, installation and testing<br />

equipment under supervision.<br />

Career opportunities<br />

Technical assistant, performing routine assembly and testing tasks, component<br />

and system identification (under direction). This course also provides a foundation<br />

for further study in the Certificate IV and Diploma levels in Electrical or<br />

Six months full-time. Part-time students will take longer to complete all necessary<br />

UTE60399 Advanced Diploma <strong>of</strong> Electronics<br />

VTAC code: 70431 (Croydon), 77431 (Hawthorn)<br />

The Diploma has various 'strands' which align with the Certificate IV strands. A<br />

'Multi-Strand' diploma can be achieved by selection <strong>of</strong> appropriate extra<br />

modules.The two strands <strong>of</strong>fered are:<br />

Broad Based: gives students a general background in electronics.<br />

MicroProcessor: gives students general background in electronics, with an<br />

emphasis on digital technology and the application <strong>of</strong> MicroProcessorscontrolled<br />

circuitry.<br />

Note: Associate Diploma Conversion - conversion subjects from Associate<br />

Diploma <strong>of</strong> Engineering (Electronics) to Diploma can be arranged with the<br />

Electronics Co-ordinator. Similarly, the Associate Diploma <strong>of</strong> Electronics<br />

(Computer Systems) can be converted.<br />

Note: The location <strong>of</strong> this course depends on the strand being <strong>of</strong>fered.<br />

Aims & Objectives<br />

The Certificate IV modules aim to enhance the skills attained in the Certificate II<br />

by <strong>of</strong>fering more advanced technical abilities while at the same time preparing<br />

students for entry into the Diploma level studies.<br />

The Diploma aims to provide students with a full para-pr<strong>of</strong>essional qualification<br />

suitable for perforrning the duties <strong>of</strong> a technical <strong>of</strong>ficer or similar engineering<br />

assistant.<br />

Career opportunities<br />

Certificate IV: Technician or serviceman level performing maintenance, diagnosis,<br />

repair and customer liaison within the computer and electronics industry.<br />

Diploma: Employment as a technical <strong>of</strong>ficer who performs planning, design,<br />

analysis, supervision or engineering liaison. It also provides a foundation for<br />

further study towards a degree.<br />

Course duration<br />

Certificate IV: Approximately nine months full-time in addition to the Certificate II<br />

in Electronics (or equivalent part-time).<br />

Diploma: Two years full-time (including Certificate II and Certificate IV levels) or<br />

equivalent part-time.<br />
