This course gives students <strong>of</strong> all ages the opportunity to enter the world <strong>of</strong><br />
communication media, writing, publishing and multimedia. It provides a<br />
comprehensive introduction to communication and media in its many forms.<br />
The program is geared to several categories <strong>of</strong> students: schoolleavers<br />
committed to working in the communication and writing industries, those<br />
experienced in the industry wishing to upgrade their skills, those seeking entry to<br />
a degree program, and mature age persons.<br />

Career opportunities<br />
The course <strong>of</strong>fers occupational outcomes involving responsibilities for planning,<br />
supervision, analysis and problem solving as well as higher skills in production<br />
and marketing <strong>of</strong> freelance fiction, scriptwriting, non-fiction, design, media and<br />
multimedia production.<br />
The course may also allow a pathway to the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts at <strong>Swinburne</strong>, with<br />
substantial credit towards the first year <strong>of</strong> the degree. A credit transfer<br />
arrangement is in process for the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Multimedia at <strong>Swinburne</strong>.<br />
Course duration<br />
Three semesters (54 weeks) full-time. However, students can exit the course after<br />
one semester with the Certificate IV in Social Sciences (Communication).<br />
