Students may also choose to continue their studies for a further year to obtain the<br />

Diploma <strong>of</strong> Arts (Visual Merchandising) at Royal Melbourne Institute <strong>of</strong><br />

Technology (RMIT).<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional recognition<br />

The course is supported by the Wholesale, Retail and Personal Services Industry<br />

Training Board and industry representatives <strong>of</strong> the visual merchandising industry.<br />

Course duration<br />

Two years part-time (approx 12 -15 hours per week).<br />

Structure<br />

In order to be awarded the qualification, students must demonstrate competence<br />

in all specified learning outcomes as well as successfully completing a major<br />

project and designated practical placement. Participants will be required to be<br />

team members and perform a large amount <strong>of</strong> display and store maintenance.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Satisfactory completion <strong>of</strong> an appropriate Victorian Year 12 or its equivalent, or<br />

mature age with some art or design experience and/or a demonstrated capacity<br />

and motivation for this field. Applicants may present a folio <strong>of</strong> their art, craft,<br />

design work or photographs <strong>of</strong> display and merchandising at interview.<br />

Community Options Program<br />

This a general education program for people with a disability. It provides an<br />

opportunity to develop the skills required for employment and further education.<br />

Students negotiate an individual program plan containing learning objectives<br />

which are relevant to their aspirations.<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the course the students are assisted in finding employment and/<br />

or where appropriate are encouraged to pursue further studies and training.<br />

Students may attend part-time or full-time, can enter at any time <strong>of</strong> the year and<br />

can complete the program at any time <strong>of</strong> the year.<br />

intermediate to high intermediate levels <strong>of</strong> English to progress to further study<br />
