Resource Management<br />

The Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management will appeal to people<br />

from a diverse range <strong>of</strong> business backgrounds who have a common goal- to gain<br />

a tertiary qualification in order to improve their management skills and business<br />

prospects.<br />

Aims & Objectives<br />

The course aims to provide the skills needed for effective human resource<br />

management. It can also be viewed as the first step in the on-going process <strong>of</strong><br />

postgraduate management education.<br />

The course has been fully endorsed by the Australian Human Resources Institute<br />

(AHRI).<br />

Course duration<br />

Two semesters <strong>of</strong> part-time study over one year.<br />

Structure<br />

The Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management is the first stage in the<br />

Graduate Diploma <strong>of</strong> Business (Human Resource Management). The Graduate<br />

Certificate is based on thirty weeks <strong>of</strong> classes held over two semesters.<br />

Candidates who commence in semester one or two will attend classes on either<br />

Tuesday or Wednesday evenings from 5.30pm to 9.30pm.<br />

The program may also be run 'in-house' for organisations where a minimum <strong>of</strong><br />

fourteen candidates are available.<br />

Graduate Certificate in Business<br />

(Management <strong>of</strong> International<br />

Education)<br />

This Graduate Certificate course has been designed for teaching, administrative<br />

and management staff who wish to work in delivering education or promoting<br />

education and training to international students onshore, in <strong>of</strong>fshore international<br />

projects, and in supporting any aspect <strong>of</strong> the international education and training<br />

activity <strong>of</strong> their organisation.<br />

One to two years part-time.<br />

Structure<br />

One-third <strong>of</strong> each 40 hour module will be delivered in seminar format at<br />

<strong>Swinburne</strong>'s Hawthorn campus, with the remaining hours undertaken through selfdirected<br />

study, on-line resources and action learning.<br />

Participants can nominate the number and sequence <strong>of</strong> modules they wish to<br />

enrol in. However, to be awarded the Graduate Certificate, students need to<br />

successfully complete, or gain Recognition <strong>of</strong> Prior Learning (RPL) in two core<br />

modules and two elective modules.<br />

Management <strong>of</strong> International Education and Training - Offshore.<br />

At least one <strong>of</strong> the above must be done, with other options chosen from the<br />

following:<br />

An approved module at Graduate Certificate or equivalent level which<br />

develops complementary competencies to those <strong>of</strong> other modules<br />

undertaken,<br />

An agreed organisationally based project or research activity, or<br />

Candidates who possess a level <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>iciency equivalent to ASLPR 4/5 in<br />

reading, writing, listening and speaking in a language other than english may<br />

identify this as their elective.<br />

A degree or advanced diploma from a recognised tertiary institution (or approved<br />

eqUivalent). Applicants who do not hold an appropriate qualification but who<br />

have considerable relevant work experience are also eligible to apply.<br />
