RUH30498 Certificate III in Horticulture<br />
(landscape) - Apprenticeship<br />
This apprenticeship course provides students with the underpinning knowledge<br />
and skills appropriate to meet the needs <strong>of</strong> the landscape industry. The elective<br />
units make up the substantive course content and will develop the essential<br />
specific skills required to meet industry tradesperson requirements. The essential<br />
units are designed to develop the students' generic workplace skills which are so<br />
highly valued by employers. These include understanding industry and health and<br />
safety requirements, working in teams, and communication skills.<br />
Collecting, analysing and organising information, solving problems and using<br />
technology are also important attributes for employees in the landscape industry.<br />
These key competencies, along with others, are integrated into the learning and<br />
practical activities.<br />

This course is based upon industry identified competencies. It aims to provide the<br />
student with the knowledge and skills needed to operate successfully at trade<br />
level in the landscape industry.<br />

Structure<br />
The course involves six core subjects plus twelve elective competencies. The<br />
course is competency based, which means that students will need to demonstrate<br />
that they can actually perform a range <strong>of</strong> practical tasks to industry standards.<br />
Note: Some electives from this and other industry streams at levels 2, 3,and 4<br />
may be substituted if they are more appropriate for a particular student or<br />
enterprise. The department will determine in any year, which electives will be<br />
<strong>of</strong>fered, based on available resources and minimum class sizes.<br />

Study is undertaken in one <strong>of</strong> the streams <strong>of</strong> nursery in which a person is working.<br />
The essential units are designed to develop the students' generic workplace skills,<br />
so highly valued by employers. These include understanding industry and health<br />
and safety requirements, working in teams and communication skills.<br />
