This Unit <strong>of</strong> Competency is concerned with the establishment <strong>of</strong> occupational health<br />

and safety policies and guidelines in a horticultural workplace and/orwork site.<br />

Establishment <strong>of</strong> these policies is likely to be under limited supervision from others<br />

with checking only related to overall progress. This process involves the application <strong>of</strong><br />

horticultural knowledge with depth in some areas. The work is normally done within<br />

existing routines, methods and procedures. This unitis equivalentto the rural generic<br />

unitAG4021 8M Establish and Maintain the Enterprise OHS program.<br />

Develop a plant nutrition program<br />

This Unit <strong>of</strong> Competency is concerned with the development <strong>of</strong> a plant nutrition<br />

program in the horticultural industry. Development <strong>of</strong> a plant nutrition program is likely<br />

to be undertaken without supervision with only general guidance on progress sought by<br />

higher <strong>of</strong>ficers. Responsibility for and limited organisation <strong>of</strong>the work <strong>of</strong> others in the<br />

plant nutrition program may be involved. Developing plant nutrition programs at this<br />

level requires a broad range <strong>of</strong> Level 3 skills and involves the application <strong>of</strong> underpinning<br />

knowledge with depth in areas including plant biology, crop nutrition requirements, soil<br />

and other growing media properties.<br />
