Content<br />

Students will learn to identify and articulate effective goals, and will review various<br />

approaches to leadership styles appropriate forthe range <strong>of</strong> recreation settings.<br />

Methods and materials for recreation instruction will be explored. This theory will be<br />

used to explore and analyse the leadership skills <strong>of</strong> students and others.<br />

English (Units 3&4)<br />

English 3 focusses on the development <strong>of</strong> critical responses to both literary and nonliterary<br />

texts, including media texts, and the use <strong>of</strong> oral language to interact positively,<br />

critically and confidently with audiences in formal and informal settings. Students will<br />

discuss in detail the ideas, experiences and issues dealt with in a selected text and in<br />

current Australian media texts, and present complex ideas and information to an<br />

audience through a prepared oral presentation.<br />

English 4 focusses on the development <strong>of</strong> critical responses to both literary and nonliterary<br />

texts, and the achievement <strong>of</strong> competence and confidence in writing for<br />

different purposes and audiences, in a variety <strong>of</strong>forms. Students will develop and<br />

justify a detailed interpretation <strong>of</strong> selected texts, and communicate complex ideas and<br />

information effectively through finished writing for different purposes and audiences.<br />

Content<br />

Legal Studies 3 focusses on the institutions which determine laws, and the processes<br />

by which laws are made. It considers why laws are necessary and the main types <strong>of</strong><br />

laws which exist within the community. It also explores the way in which an individual<br />

working alone oras a member <strong>of</strong> a group can influence the law. The law is not static<br />

and is under constant review: legal rules tend to reflect community values and are<br />

therefore modified as values change. This unit investigates the relationship between<br />

these values and the law.<br />

Legal Studies 4 focusses on the courts, tribunals and alternative avenues <strong>of</strong> dispute<br />

resolution, and processes and procedures which operate within the legal system. It also<br />

includes a review <strong>of</strong> the operation <strong>of</strong> the legal system, giving consideration to its<br />

strengths and weaknesses, and possible areas for change and reform.<br />

Content<br />

Physics 3 covers the areas <strong>of</strong> sound, electric power and electronic systems, and the<br />

principles <strong>of</strong> investigation. The unit promotes the development <strong>of</strong> students' ability to use<br />

physics to explain phenomena and events, and technological and social applications.<br />

Students gain an understanding <strong>of</strong>the ways in which knowledge in physics advances<br />

and is applied.<br />

Physics 4 covers the areas <strong>of</strong> motion, gravity, structures and materials, ideas about<br />

light and matter and principles <strong>of</strong> investigation. The unit promotes the development <strong>of</strong><br />

students' ability to use physics to explain phenomena and events, and technological and<br />

social applications. Students gain an understanding <strong>of</strong>the ways in which knowledge in<br />

physics advances and is applied.<br />
