This course aims to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and attitudes<br />
necessary to work specifically as a make-up artist in the film, video, television,<br />
theatre, photographic and fashion industries. The course gives current relevant<br />
industry training by pr<strong>of</strong>essional make-up artists working in the industry. It also<br />
<strong>of</strong>fers on-the-job training to enhance participants skills in a pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
environment, maximising opportunities to receive hands on experience in the film,<br />
television and theatre industries.<br />
Aims & Objectives<br />
This course aims to provide:<br />
Training in all aspects <strong>of</strong> make-up beginning with Morphology, the study <strong>of</strong><br />
bones and muscles <strong>of</strong> the face.<br />
Basic knowledge <strong>of</strong> the history <strong>of</strong> make-up, including Greek, Roman and<br />
Renaissance looks.<br />
Study <strong>of</strong> theatre make-up, covering straight, ageing and character work.<br />
Period make-up, both in theory and practice, working through the decades<br />
from 1900's to 1990's.<br />
The use <strong>of</strong> special effects make-up for film and television ego ageing,<br />
wounds etc.<br />
Prosthetic work including mask making, plaster impressions, clay modelling,<br />
the manufacture <strong>of</strong> latex pieces and bald caps.<br />
The manufacture <strong>of</strong> facial hair pieces, moustaches etc.<br />
Maintenance and care <strong>of</strong> wigs and hair pieces.<br />
Business management for the make-up artist and on set protocol.<br />
Basic study <strong>of</strong> lighting theory.<br />
Study <strong>of</strong> script analysis, continuity for film and television.<br />
An understanding <strong>of</strong> the principles <strong>of</strong> colour theory, painting and sculpture in<br />
art techniques.<br />

Structure<br />
The full-time course has an average workload <strong>of</strong> 24 hours per week while the<br />
part-time course has 8 hours per week. Total student contact hours include<br />
lectures, practical work, flexible learning delivery and research time, and will vary<br />
in each semester.<br />

This course is designed to give students the necessary skills to organise a<br />
performance, event or project and undertake the administrative tasks associated<br />
with such a performance. The focus <strong>of</strong> the course is to provide participants with<br />
opportunities to simulate industry practice by conceiving, developing, planning,<br />
activating, rehearsing and staging an event or performance.<br />
The course is considered ideal for people wanting a broad based vocational<br />
course to enable them to seek work in the theatre and entertainment industry. The<br />
course also <strong>of</strong>fers individuals a chance to establish their own companies and work<br />
on a diverse range <strong>of</strong> event projects.<br />
The industry placement module acts as a vital link for students to work in the<br />
industry and provides valuable on-the-job experience.<br />

The course aims to provide participants with the skills and knowledge necessary<br />
for actor/theatre workers to create their own theatre work. Students are<br />
encouraged to be multi-skilled in creating self devised works, acting,<br />
scriptwriting, stage management, lighting, set design and event management for<br />
