The Diploma is the first stage in the Advanced Diploma <strong>of</strong> Business (Accounting).<br />

It develops practical skills in basic to intermediate accounting procedures,<br />

computerised accounting, law, communications, mathematics, statistics and<br />

computer applications such as word processing, databases and spreadsheets.<br />

The Advanced Diploma covers areas such as costing, payroll, accounts payable,<br />

accounts receivable, taxation and budgeting. Students gain 'hands on' experience<br />

in using account, taxations, spreadsheet, database and word processing s<strong>of</strong>tware.<br />

Aims & Objectives<br />

The aim <strong>of</strong> this course is to provide students with the opportunity to obtain<br />

knowledge and skills relating to manual and computerised accounting, costing,<br />

budgeting, taxation, financial accounting and financial management, as well as<br />

spread sheeting and database management. On completion <strong>of</strong> the taxation<br />

modules and two years relevant experience in the last five years, students may<br />

register as Tax Agents.<br />

Career opportunities<br />

The course provides up-to-date training for a variety <strong>of</strong> accounting positions such<br />

as assistant accountant in medium to large organisations.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional recognition<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> the Advanced Diploma, graduates are eligible for membership <strong>of</strong><br />

the National Institute <strong>of</strong> Accountants (NIA). On completion <strong>of</strong> the taxation<br />

modules and two years relevant experience in the last five years, graduates may<br />

register as a Tax Agent.<br />

Course duration<br />

Diploma: One year full-time or two to three years part-time.<br />

Advanced Diploma: Two years full-time or five to six years part-time.<br />

Structure<br />

The Advanced Diploma <strong>of</strong> Business (Accounting) incorporates the Diploma <strong>of</strong><br />

Business (Accounting). Students must therefore complete the Diploma subjects<br />

before progressing to the Advanced Diploma level.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Satisfactory completion <strong>of</strong> an appropriate Victorian Year 12 or its equivalent, or<br />

mature age.<br />

Application procedure<br />

Full-time (Semester 1) applications must be made through the Victorian Tertiary<br />

Admissions Centre (VTAC).<br />
