Covers basic skills and knowledge required to ensure maximum safety at all times for<br />

emphasises both the principles and practice <strong>of</strong> safety and the integration <strong>of</strong> safe work<br />

practices across the range <strong>of</strong> tasks undertaken by workers in the horticulture industry.<br />

Content<br />

Introduction to hand and power tools commonly used in most sectors <strong>of</strong>the horticulture<br />

industry, focussing on the correct use, maintenance and storage <strong>of</strong> hand and power<br />

tools. Basic features <strong>of</strong> motorised equipment, including types <strong>of</strong> engines, fuel and<br />

service requirements will also be covered.<br />

Garden Maintenance<br />

30 nominal Hours· Prerequisite: The subject is for students who have specific learning<br />

needs with a focus on intellectual and/or learning disability, have the potential for open<br />

employment and/or further training, and are sixteen years <strong>of</strong> age or over.<br />

Content<br />

Provides basic skills and knowledge required forthe maintenance <strong>of</strong> planted areas<br />

normally carried out under supervision. Maintenance activities should include all the<br />

major plant categories (eg: trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, ground cover, turf).<br />

Production Support - Propogation<br />
