The Certificate IV in Community Services (Disbaility Work) is recognised as the<br />
current primary qualification in the disability field.<br />
Successful completion <strong>of</strong> this course may act as credits for students wishing to<br />
continue studying in the following courses <strong>of</strong>fered within the Community and<br />
Further Education Department. and the Human Services Department, including<br />
Certificate IV in Community Services (Youth Work!. Diploma in Community<br />
Services (Welfare Studies), and Diploma <strong>of</strong> Community Services (Community<br />
Work). The course also has pathways to the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Social Sciences (Human<br />
Services).<br />
Course duration<br />
One-year full-time or two years part-time.<br />
Structure<br />
Students participate in 200 hours on-the-job training in a range <strong>of</strong> workplace<br />
settings. This placement is organised by the Department in consultation with<br />
students' preferences.<br />

There are no formal entry requirements. However, preference is given to people<br />
who have experience with people with disabilities. This may include personal<br />
experience or paid or unpaid employment.<br />
Application procedure<br />
Full-time applications must be made through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions<br />
Centre (VTAC). Part-time applicants should apply directly to the Department on<br />

attend an information session and a group interview. Applicants must also<br />
undergo a police check.<br />

Diversional Therapy<br />
Providing leisure opportunities for older people and people with disabilities is a<br />
new and growing field in Australia. As these new programs emerge, there is an<br />
increasing need to provide qualified pr<strong>of</strong>essionals to facilitate these leisure and<br />
recreation programs. The Certificate IV in Diversional Therapy aims to meet this<br />
need by providing accredited training to people currently working or wishing to<br />
work within this area.<br />
