Case work and case management roles in residential care, juvenille justice and<br />

community support, including programs development, policy and advocacy roles.<br />

Graduates may also continue to the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Social Sciences (Human Services)<br />

and extend their knowledge and skills for employment in management and policy<br />

roles.<br />

Course duration<br />

Two years full-time, four years part-time. Students who exit after one year fulltime<br />

study are eligible to receive the Certificate IV in Community Services (Youth<br />

This course has been developed in cooperation with national and international<br />

Emergency Management Australia, the peak Commonwealth organisation in<br />

emergency management Support has been received from a range <strong>of</strong> emergency/<br />

disaster management agencies and organisations, including the Australasian Fire<br />

Authorities Council, the Metropolitan Fire Brigade Melbourne, Victoria Police and<br />

Victorian State Emergency Service. International support is received from the<br />

Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre and the Asian Institute <strong>of</strong> Technology.<br />

The course provides participants with a regional, national and international<br />

perspective on disaster management, based around the Australian/New Zealand<br />

standard on Risk Management (AS/NZS 4360:1995).<br />

Course duration<br />

Graduate Certificate: One semester full-time or equivalent part-time.<br />

Graudate Diploma: One year full-time or equivalent part-time.<br />

Structure<br />

Graduate Certificate students must complete the 2 core modules and 2 elective<br />

modules to make up a total 50 credit points. Those who complete the Graduate<br />

Certificate may articulate to the Graduate Diploma.<br />

Graudate Diploma students must complete all modules to make up a total <strong>of</strong> 100<br />

credit points.<br />

A degree or advanced diploma from a recognised tertiary institution (or approved<br />

equivalent). Applicants with relevant work experience are also eligible to apply,<br />

particularly where relevant pr<strong>of</strong>essional practice has been undertaken. In these<br />

cases it is expected that the intending participants will be able to:<br />
