This course provides specialised education and training for scientific laboratory<br />

support staff. The course encompasses a wide range <strong>of</strong> skills, techniques, and<br />

processes, so that graduates are adaptable and competent to meet the<br />

technological and administrative demands <strong>of</strong> a changing work force.<br />

NOTE: This course will be updated in <strong>2002</strong>. Final details are not available at this<br />

time, however, the new course should be similar to the course details below.<br />

Current students are able to either complete this qualification or transfer to the<br />

new Diploma. All new students will be enrolled in the new Diploma.<br />

The course is designed to provide apropriate para-pr<strong>of</strong>essional level and<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Satisfactory completion <strong>of</strong> an appropriate Victorian Year 12 or its equivalent.<br />

Applicants who have not satisfactorily completed VCE Units 3 and 4 in Chemistry,<br />

Maths or Biology may be required to undertake introductory modules. Mature-age<br />

applicants without VCE but with relevant laboratory experience are encouraged to<br />

apply.<br />

Full-time (Semester 1) applications must be made through the Victorian Tertiary<br />

Admissions Centre (VTAC).<br />

BRIDGING SCIENCES<br />

S2312ACC Certificate III in Science<br />

(Bridging Science)<br />

This course is primarily designed to provide those who lack background<br />

knowledge with skills in the areas <strong>of</strong> mathematics, sciences, computing and<br />

communication skills. These skills may be required to undertake further studies to<br />

fulfil career aspirations, or to improve employment opportunities. Alternatively, a<br />

person may wish to become familiar with any <strong>of</strong> these areas for personal<br />

development.<br />

This course aims to prepare adults to pursue further tertiary studies in the science<br />

field.<br />

Following the successful completion <strong>of</strong> appropriate units, students may wish to<br />

progress to mature-age VCE or apply as a mature-age student to a university<br />

degree or <strong>TAFE</strong> Diploma course in Applied Science, Information Technology,<br />

Environment Science, Health, Engineering etc. Access to career fields such as<br />

applied science, information technology, nursing, paramedical and alternative<br />

medicine will be improved.<br />

The course is <strong>of</strong>fered both part-time and full-time. Day classes and some evening<br />

classes are <strong>of</strong>fered: evening classes are conducted from 5.30pm to 9.30pm.<br />
