Aims & Objectives<br />

To develop a knowledge <strong>of</strong> acting methods and performance styles and to develop acting<br />

skills for a range <strong>of</strong> performance settings. Naturalistic and non-naturalistic styles,<br />

collaboration, climax, mood, timing, monologues/scene work and taking direction will<br />

also form part <strong>of</strong> this subject.<br />

VBJ301 Voice 1<br />

Semester 1 and 2·50 nominal Hours· Prahran • Prerequisite: Nil<br />

Aims & Objectives<br />

To develop a knowledge <strong>of</strong> vocal theorists and skills in the use <strong>of</strong> voice for performance<br />

through application <strong>of</strong> vocal process, key components <strong>of</strong> voice, development <strong>of</strong> warm up<br />

techniques, alignment, breath and techniques for the release <strong>of</strong>tension. Location <strong>of</strong> head<br />

and nasal and chest resonance, vocal range and articulation, voice in a range <strong>of</strong><br />

performance spaces, and its impact on the audience. Application <strong>of</strong> vocal techniques to<br />

text and character.<br />

VBJ302 Movement 1<br />

Semester 1 and 2.50 nominal Hours· Prerequisite: Nil<br />

Aims & Objectives<br />

To develop a knowledge <strong>of</strong>, and skills in, movement in a range <strong>of</strong> performance contexts.<br />

Principles <strong>of</strong> movement including space, timing, rhythm, focus, flexibility, co-ordination,<br />

shape and locomotion. Preparing the body for movement. Kinaesthetic awareness,<br />

space, stillness and movement. Movement conventions <strong>of</strong> dance styles, posture, body<br />

alignment and use <strong>of</strong> body parts.<br />

VBJ303 Improvisation 1<br />

Semester 1 and 2.50 nominal Hours· Prerequisite: Nil<br />

Aims & Objectives<br />

To develop a range <strong>of</strong> improvisation techniques for use in performance settings by<br />

improvisation techniques in traditional. contemporary theatre, studio and performance.<br />

This unit also covers the role <strong>of</strong> imagination, spontaneity and confidence in<br />

improvisation, the audience/actor relationship and improvisation styles used in theatre<br />

sports, Com media Dell'Arte and clowning. Improvisation, character development and<br />

story telling are also covered.<br />

Australian Theatre<br />

Semester 1 & 2.50 nominal Hours. Prerequisite: Nil<br />

Aims & Objectives<br />

To develop a knowledge <strong>of</strong>the history <strong>of</strong> Australian theatre and a knowledge <strong>of</strong><br />

theatre productions by looking atthe nature, organisation and operational<br />

characteristics <strong>of</strong> theatre.<br />
