An increased ability to complete mainstream courses and the confidence to take
advantage of pathways to further study.
Course duration
As an adjunct to mainstream studies and equal to the duration of any mainstream
TAFE course. Available each weekday throughout the academic year.
Structure
Individual, small group and workshop sessions are available. Students make
appointments to attend these according to their own needs. Concurrent
assistance is offered at four levels:

Concurrent Study 1 for students in Certificate I or /I Courses
Concurrent Study 2 for students in Certificate 1/1 Courses
Concurrent Study 3 for students in Certificate IV Courses
Concurrent Study 4 for students in Diploma Courses
Note: Some Diploma students may be advised to enrol in Concurrent Study 3.
Entry requirements
Permanent residents enrolled in a TAFE Diploma and most Certificate courses are
eligible for study skills, language, literacy and mathematics assistance. Higher
Education students are also eligible for academic and language skills support.
Application procedure
Applications should be made to the Head of Study Support at each campus.
Applications are accepted throughout the year. There is no charge for study
support.

VCE (Victorian Certificate of
Education)
The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is a prerequisite for most degree
courses and a number of TAFE courses. VCE subjects can be taken in a wide range
of combinations, on either a full-time or part-time basis in the day or evening.
Students should ensure that they choose the necessary subjects to ensure
eligibility for the specific tertiary courses that they hope to enter after successful
completion of VCE.

Successful completion of the VCE provides Pathways to a diverse range of TAFE
and degree courses.
Course duration
Continuing students: two years full-time or equivalent part-time.
Adult VCE: one year full-time or equivalent part-time.
Structure
Continuing Students
In order to successfully complete the VCE students must have completed a total of
16 units of which at least 3 units must be English (Unit 3 &4 must be two of these
three units). Students must have completed at least 8 units at at 3 & 4 level
(including English 3&4). Continuing students should check their subject choices
with the coordinator in order to ensure that they have completed subjects from
the appropriate studies.
Adult VCE
Students who are over 18 and one year out of secondary school qualify for Adult
VCE. Students must complete 8 units (4 subjects) at unit 3 & 4 level including
English.

Entry requirements
Applicants must have completed Year 10 before commencing units 1 and 2 (Year
11 equivalent). Adult VCE students (see entry under "Structure") over 18 years of
age can enrol directly into Units 3 and 4.

Certificate I in Work Education
The course aims to provide basic literacy, numeracy and vocational training skills
to students who:
Have specific learning needs with a focus on intellectual and/or learning
disability.
Have the potential for open employment and/or further training.
Are sixteen years of age or over.
