Career opportunities<br />
An increased ability to complete mainstream courses and the confidence to take<br />
advantage <strong>of</strong> pathways to further study.<br />
Course duration<br />
As an adjunct to mainstream studies and equal to the duration <strong>of</strong> any mainstream<br />
<strong>TAFE</strong> course. Available each weekday throughout the academic year.<br />
Structure<br />
Individual, small group and workshop sessions are available. Students make<br />
appointments to attend these according to their own needs. Concurrent<br />
assistance is <strong>of</strong>fered at four levels:<br />

Concurrent Study 1 for students in Certificate I or /I Courses<br />

Note: Some Diploma students may be advised to enrol in Concurrent Study 3.<br />
Entry requirements<br />
Permanent residents enrolled in a <strong>TAFE</strong> Diploma and most Certificate courses are<br />
eligible for study skills, language, literacy and mathematics assistance. Higher<br />
Education students are also eligible for academic and language skills support.<br />
Application procedure<br />
Applications should be made to the Head <strong>of</strong> Study Support at each campus.<br />
Applications are accepted throughout the year. There is no charge for study<br />
support.<br />

VCE (Victorian Certificate <strong>of</strong><br />
Education)<br />
The Victorian Certificate <strong>of</strong> Education (VCE) is a prerequisite for most degree<br />
courses and a number <strong>of</strong> <strong>TAFE</strong> courses. VCE subjects can be taken in a wide range<br />
<strong>of</strong> combinations, on either a full-time or part-time basis in the day or evening.<br />
Students should ensure that they choose the necessary subjects to ensure<br />
eligibility for the specific tertiary courses that they hope to enter after successful<br />
completion <strong>of</strong> VCE.<br />

Successful completion <strong>of</strong> the VCE provides Pathways to a diverse range <strong>of</strong> <strong>TAFE</strong><br />
and degree courses.<br />
Course duration<br />
Continuing students: two years full-time or equivalent part-time.<br />
Adult VCE: one year full-time or equivalent part-time.<br />
Structure<br />
Continuing Students<br />
In order to successfully complete the VCE students must have completed a total <strong>of</strong><br />
16 units <strong>of</strong> which at least 3 units must be English (Unit 3 &4 must be two <strong>of</strong> these<br />
three units). Students must have completed at least 8 units at at 3 & 4 level<br />
(including English 3&4). Continuing students should check their subject choices<br />
with the coordinator in order to ensure that they have completed subjects from<br />
the appropriate studies.<br />
Adult VCE<br />
Students who are over 18 and one year out <strong>of</strong> secondary school qualify for Adult<br />
VCE. Students must complete 8 units (4 subjects) at unit 3 & 4 level including<br />
English.<br />

The course aims to provide basic literacy, numeracy and vocational training skills<br />
