These courses are designed for people from English and non-English speaking<br />
backgrounds who left school before Year 11. The main focus is on improving a<br />
student's skill in reading, writing and maths, together with a strong emphasis on<br />
improving self confidence. Students are also encouraged to undertake some<br />
introductory vocational modules.<br />

Career opportunities<br />
On completion <strong>of</strong> the course students are assisted in finding employment and/or<br />
where appropriate are encouraged to pursue further studies and training.<br />
Structure<br />
The course can be undertaken on a full-time (16 - 20 hours per week) or part-time<br />
basis. Intakes are flexible and occur at regular intervals throughout the year. The<br />
number <strong>of</strong> modules required to complete the Certificate is dependent on an<br />
individual's skills at entry. Students are required to complete core modules in<br />
English, Maths and Computer skills and select from a range <strong>of</strong> electives.<br />
