Adityas. The twelve Planetary Spirits.<br />

Adharma. Unrighteous; lacking virtue.<br />

Advaita. Non-dualistic; monistic; the designation of the Monistic sect of the<br />

Vedanta.<br />

Adhyasa. Reflection of an outside object; the chameleon quality of taking<br />

on appearances, hence the illusory aspect of things.<br />

Aham. The Ego; the “I.”<br />

Ahamkara. Egoism; Self-Consciousness; the Sattva or Principle of Self-<br />

Consciousness.<br />

Ahara. The drawing in of nourishment for body or mind.<br />

Ajna. The Sixth Lotus of the Yoga Teachings of Patanjali, situated in the<br />

centre of the brain, just back of the eye-brows; also used in the sense<br />

of “divine perception.” Ajnata. One possessing divine wisdom, or<br />

superhuman psychic perception.<br />

Akasha. The Universal Ether, which pervades all space.<br />

Akhanda. Whole; undivided.<br />

Akhanda-Satchitananda. “The Undivided Existence-Knowledge-Bliss<br />

Absolute”; the knowledge of which is perceived in Samadhi.<br />

Alambana. Contemplation on outward things.<br />

Amritatvam. Immortality.<br />

Anahata. The Fourth Lotus of the Yoga of Patanjali, situated in Shusumna,<br />

directly in line with the heart.<br />

Ananda. Absolute Bliss.
