side of us, every day. If you doubt this, examine these rundown people, and<br />

in every case you will find that they take but a limited amount of fluids, while<br />

on the other hand, if you will examine the habits of the healthy people you<br />

will find that they partake of a liberal amount of fluids every day.<br />

The best authorities agree that the normal amount of fluids that should be<br />

taken by the average person is about two quarts every twenty-four hours.<br />

Think of that you people who have been taking but a pint a day, or less!<br />

No wonder you are not healthy. How could you be, flying in the face of<br />

Nature in this manner. You must get back to Nature’s normal conditions, if<br />

you would be healthy. You should begin by increasing your daily amount of<br />

fluids, adding a little each week, until you reach the normal amount. Do not<br />

gulp down large quantities at a time, but drink small quantities a number of<br />

times during the day.<br />

You will find it an excellent habit to get into the way of drinking a cupful of<br />

cold water the first thing after arising in the morning, and another just before<br />

retiring at night. Then drink a number of times during the day. You will soon<br />

get back to the natural habit, from which you have strayed so long and so far.<br />

It may give you a little bother at first—the false habit may have become well<br />

established—but persevere, and you will soon regain normal conditions.<br />

Do not be afraid of drinking water at meal times—that old boog-a-boo has<br />

frightened off so many—the only thing to be avoided is that of “washing<br />

down” the food. This “washing-down” habit is bad, for it prevents the<br />

thorough mastication of the food, which is necessary for a proper digestion,<br />

the saliva containing certain elements necessary for complete digestion. The<br />

water that you drink at meal times is quickly absorbed in the circulation and<br />

the work of digestion is not retarded thereby unless the water be icy cold<br />

in which case the stomach becomes chilled. So cultivate the two quart<br />

per day habit, and you will find that your constipated condition will vanish,<br />

and that your digestion will improve; and that you will begin to plump out
