That mean spirit should be avoided from a distance, who, relying on the<br />

unseen Fate, attributes his conduct to the unreal and false idea of some<br />

one necessitating it from behind. He is verily a beast, constantly in another’s<br />

power, who thinks he goes to heaven or hell as God may will it.<br />

Yogavasishtha.<br />

Even the body being of illusion, where could there be any room for<br />

necessity? That the Vedas speak of necessity is only for the enlightenment<br />

of the ignorant.<br />

Aparokshanubhuti.<br />

In this world, oh child of the Raghus! every one can always compass<br />

everything through well-directed personal effort.<br />

Yogavasishtha.<br />

Resort to personal effort. Hear such word of scripture as points out some<br />

useful line of action. The rest, even though as old as time, should be<br />

overlooked, with the eye fixed on truth and truth alone.<br />
