even Thou hath been treated by me with irreverence and undue familiarity,<br />

even at play and at sports; in public upon many and various occasions—for<br />

all of which, O Being Absolute and Infinite, I humbly beg thy forgiveness<br />

and pardon.<br />

“Thou art the Parent of the animate and inanimate! Thou art the Wise<br />

Instructor of all who seek wisdom! Thou art the One alone worthy to be<br />

adored! Thou art the One like whom there is none! Yea, in all the three<br />

worlds there is none like unto Thee! Wherefore, bow down to the very<br />

earth, myself do I, and crave thy forgiving mercy and compassion. Lord, Lord,<br />

Krishna, My Lord! Adorable Lord! bear with me even as a father beareth<br />

with his son; a friend with a friend; a lover with his beloved—so bear with<br />

me, O Lord!<br />

“Most favored am I in being shown that which no man hath ever yet<br />

seen—and most happy am I to have been so favored, and to have witnessed<br />

these things, O Lord; yea, even when I remembereth that which I have seen,<br />

my heart beateth strongly, and my breath cometh and goeth rapidly, so<br />

overwhelmed doth my mind become. And, yet, even from my awe doth my<br />

words spring, when I beg of Thee still another gift; I beseech Thee to show<br />

me Thyself in Thy Celestial Form. Assume then, O Thousand armed One—<br />

Universal Former of Form—assume Thou then, I pray Thee, Thy familiar<br />

shape in which I have seen Thee countless times, and upon which I can look<br />

without so great fear.”<br />

Krishna: “Arjuna, out of my love and affection for thee, hath I shown<br />

thee, by my divine power, this my supreme forms as the Universe, in all its<br />

splendid glory, eternal and infinite. None other than thyself hath ever seen<br />

this sight. For know you this, that no such sight can be obtained as a reward,<br />

even by the study of the Vedas; or by sacrifice; or by great learning; or by<br />

charity and almsgiving; or by good deeds; or by penance and self-denial.<br />

Not even these things, great as they may be and are, can win for a reward this<br />

vision and sight of Me which hath been granted unto thee, alone in all the<br />

three worlds. Having, witnessing these things—beheld My form, so awful
