Certain obligations are triggered by theend of hostilities. For example, the end of hostilities triggers obligations regarding the markingof minefields, demining, and clearance of unexploded ordnance. 144 In addition, POWs andprotected persons, in general, must be released and returned to the party to the conflict to whichthey belong. 1453.9 LAW OF WAR DUTIES ALSO APPLICABLE IN PEACESome law of war obligations also apply in peace, i.e., even when a State is not engaged inan armed conflict.
