The military authorities may appeal to the charity of the inhabitantsvoluntarily to collect and care for, under their direction, the wounded, sick, and shipwrecked,granting persons who have responded to this appeal the necessary protection and facilities. 81Should the adverse party take or retake control of the area, that party shall likewise grant thesepersons the same protection and the same facilities. 827.4.5.2 Spontaneous Collection and Care for the Wounded, Sick, and Shipwreckedby Inhabitants and Relief Societies. The military authorities shall permit the inhabitants andrelief societies, even in invaded or occupied areas, spontaneously to collect and care for woundedor sick of whatever nationality. 83 The civilian population shall respect these wounded and sick,and in particular abstain from offering them violence. 847.4.5.3 Prohibition on Molestation or Conviction for Nursing the Wounded orSick.
