POWs who are to be moved must be identified and listed before departure, and both theNational POW Information Bureau and the POWs themselves officially notified in advance, sothat they can pack their baggage and inform their next of kin. 9149.38.3 Personal Property. On repatriation, any articles of value impounded from POWsunder Article 18 of the GPW, 915 and any foreign currency that has not been converted into thecurrency of the Detaining Power, shall be restored to them. 916 Articles of value and foreigncurrency that, for any reason whatever, are not restored to POWs on repatriation, shall be sent tothe National POW Information Bureau set up under Article 122 of the GPW. 917POWs shall be allowed to take with them their personal effects and any correspondenceand parcels that have arrived for them. 918 The weight of such baggage may be limited, if theconditions of repatriation so require, to what each POW can reasonably carry. 919 Each POWshall in all cases be authorized to carry at least 25 kilograms (approximately 55 pounds). 920 Theother personal effects of the repatriated POW shall be left in the charge of the Detaining Power,which shall have them forwarded to him or her as soon as it has concluded an agreement to thiseffect, regulating the conditions of transport and the payment of the costs involved, with thePower on which the POW depends. 9219.38.4 POW Accounts and Financial Matters.
