Auxiliary medicalpersonnel shall wear, but only while carrying out medical duties, a white armlet bearing in itscenter the distinctive sign in miniature; the armlet shall be issued and stamped by the militaryauthority. 1887.9 CAPTURED MEDICAL AND RELIGIOUS PERSONNELThe treatment of captured persons who perform medical or religious duties depends ontheir legal status. Identification cards are used to help determine the correct status of medicaland religious personnel. Retained personnel are subject to certain duties, rights, and privilegesduring detention.7.9.1 Different Classes of Persons Performing Medical or Religious Duties. Persons whoperform medical or religious duties may be grouped into three categories based on theirtreatment with respect to detention: (1) medical and religious personnel who are exempt fromcapture; (2) medical and religious personnel who may be retained; and (3) persons who performmedical and religious duties who are held as POWs.7.9.1.1 Medical and Religious Personnel Who Are Exempt From Capture andDetention. Certain classes of medical and religious personnel are exempt from capture anddetention.
