The Occupying Powershall take all necessary steps to facilitate the identification of children and the registration oftheir parentage. 256A special section of the National Protected Person Information Bureau set up inaccordance with Article 136 of the GC shall be responsible for taking all necessary steps toidentify children whose identity is in doubt. 25711.13.3 Prohibition Against Changing the Personal Status of Children or Enlisting Them.The Occupying Power may not, in any case, change the personal status of children, nor enlistthem in formations or organizations subordinate to it. 25811.13.4 Obligation Not to Hinder Preferential Measures for Children and Mothers. TheOccupying Power shall not hinder the application of any preferential measures in regard to food,medical care, and protection against the effects of war that may have been adopted prior to theoccupation in favor of children under fifteen years, expectant mothers, and mothers of childrenunder seven years. 25911.14 FOOD AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES FOR THE CIVILIAN POPULATION11.14.1 Duty of Ensuring the Food and Medical Supplies for the Population. To thefullest extent of the means available to it, the Occupying Power has the duty of ensuring thesufficiency of food and medical supplies for the population; it should, in particular, bring in thenecessary foodstuffs, medical stores, and other articles if the resources of the occupied territory255 GC art. 50 (“Should the local institutions be inadequate for the purpose, the Occupying Power shall makearrangements for the maintenance and education, if possible by persons of their own nationality, language andreligion, of children who are orphaned or separated from their parents as a result of the war and who cannot beadequately cared for by a near relative or friend.”).256 GC art. 50 (“The Occupying Power shall take all necessary steps to facilitate the identification of children and theregistration of their parentage.”).257 Refer to § 10.31.2.5 (Special Section for the Identification of Children in Occupied Territory).258 GC art. 50 (“The Occupying Power shall take all necessary steps to facilitate the identification of children and theregistration of their parentage.
