10.17.3 Working Conditions. The Detaining Power shall take entire responsibility for allworking conditions, for medical attention, for the payment of wages, and for ensuring that allemployed internees receive compensation for occupational accidents and diseases. 281 Thestandards prescribed for said working conditions and for compensation shall be in accordancewith national laws and regulations, and with existing practice; they shall in no case be inferior tothose obtaining for work of the same nature in the same district. 282In addition, internees who work shall receive additional rations in proportion to the kindof labor that they perform. 28310.17.4 Wage Agreement With Internees. Wages for work done shall be determined onan equitable basis by special agreements between the internees, the Detaining Power, and, if thecase arises, employers other than the Detaining Power, due regard being paid to the obligation ofthe Detaining Power to provide for free maintenance of internees, and for the medical attentionthat their state of health may require. 28410.17.5 Labor Detachments of Internees. All labor detachments shall remain part of, anddependent upon, a place of internment. 285 The competent authorities of the Detaining Power andthe commandant of a place of internment shall be responsible for the observance of theprovisions of the GC in a labor detachment. 286The commandant shall keep an up-to-date list of the labor detachments subordinate tohim or her, and shall communicate it to the delegates of the Protecting Power, of the ICRC, andof other humanitarian organizations who may visit the places of internment. 28710.18 INTERNEES’ ARTICLES OF PERSONAL USE10.18.1 Internees’ Articles of Personal Use.
