yachts, or other craft, to take on board and care for wounded, sick, or shipwrecked persons, andto collect the dead. 86Vessels of any kind responding to this appeal, and those having of their own accordcollected wounded, sick, or shipwrecked persons, shall enjoy special protection and facilities tocarry out such assistance. 87They may, in no case, be captured on account of any such transport; but, in the absence ofany promise to the contrary, they shall remain liable to capture for any violations of neutralitythey may have committed. 887.5 HUMANE TREATMENT AND CARE OF ENEMY MILITARY WOUNDED, SICK, AND SHIPWRECKEDIN THE POWER OF A PARTY TO THE CONFLICTThe wounded, sick, and shipwrecked who are protected by the GWS and GWS-Sea shallbe treated humanely and cared for by the party to the conflict in whose power they may be,without any adverse distinction founded on sex, race, nationality, religion, political opinions, orany other similar criteria. 89 Any attempts upon their lives, or violence to their persons, shall bestrictly prohibited; in particular, they shall not be murdered or exterminated or subjected totorture or to biological experiments; they shall not willfully be left without medical assistanceand care, nor shall conditions exposing them to contagion or infection be created. 907.5.1 Humane Treatment of the Wounded, Sick, and Shipwrecked Without AdverseDistinction. The wounded, sick, and shipwrecked who are protected by the GWS or GWS-Seawho are in the power of a party to the conflict are also POWs.
