eceive the benefits of the GPW, except insofar as these benefits are necessarily renderedinapplicable by the mere fact that the POW is confined. 665In no case, however, may POWs undergoing disciplinary punishments be deprived of thebenefits of the provisions of Articles 78 and 126 of the GPW. 666 Thus, POWs undergoingdisciplinary punishments may not be deprived of the right to make requests and complaints, or todeal with representatives of the Protecting Power (including representatives of an impartialhumanitarian organization performing the functions of the Protecting Power). 6679.27.6.3 Disciplinary Punishment - Retention of Prerogatives of Rank. A POWawarded disciplinary punishment may not be deprived of prerogatives attached to his or herrank. 668 The prerogatives referred to are those provided by the GPW, such as the right not to berequired to work or the right to wear the insignia of their rank. 6699.27.6.4 Attendance at Daily Medical Inspection and Medical Attention. POWsawarded disciplinary punishment shall be allowed, on their request, to be present at the dailymedical inspection. 670 They shall receive the attention that their state of health requires and, ifnecessary, shall be removed to the camp infirmary or to a hospital. 6719.27.6.5 Exercise and Access to the Open Air. POWs awarded disciplinarypunishment shall be allowed to exercise and to stay in the open air at least two hours daily. 6729.27.6.6 Reading, Writing, Correspondence, and Packages.
