98and a given noun term can be paradigmatic, but this criterion allows for theidentification of the same type of verbs, i.e. quasiterminological verbs. For L‘Homme, averb can be a term if it has paradigmatic relations to other terms. The third aspect taken into account by Lorente is the syntactic behaviour of theverbs. When there is no morphological or paradigmatic connection between a givenverb and a noun term of the specialized field but the verb‘s syntactic object is a term, then the verb belongs to the category of phraseological verbs. When there is noconnection between the verb and a noun term but there is a relevant term in theconstruction of the verb (other than its syntactic object), the verb belongs to thecategory of the verbs of logical relations. As these two types of verbs are taken toconvey specialized knowledge, one can consider Lorente‘s criterion similar toL‘Homme‘s second criterion according to which a verb is quite likely a term if itsactants are terms themselves. Performative verbs do not meet any of L‘Homme‘s orLorente‘s criteria and, therefore, do not convey specialized knowledge. Some of the differences that we observe between the two sets of criteria can beattributed to the fact that the authors work with different data and within distincttheoretical frameworks. Nonetheless, an important conclusion that can be drawn fromthese two contributions is that, in order to be specialized, verbs have to establish in oneway or another (syntagmatically and paradigmatically) a relationship with other termsof the subject field.Synonymy in legal verbsThe CTT has also been applied to the study of verbs occurring specifically in legaldiscourse. Freixa and Lorente (2006) focused on the verbs appearing in Catalan legaltexts and their synonymic relations and Lorente et al. (2008) continue the same line ofresearch but this time they focus on verbs appearing in Spanish legal texts. Their goal is
