143Agnoloni et al. (2010). Following Dolbey et al‘s idea according to which FrameNet canbe seen ―as a backbone of several domain-specific FrameNets‖ (2006: 93), this group ofItalian researchers proposes the construction of an Italian FrameNet-like resource forthe legal domain by extending and refining the general FrameNet resource. Their idea isto combine two different approaches from two different research communities, i.e.Artificial Intelligence and Law (AI&Law) and Computational Linguistics. Theymention that the FrameNet-like approach is preferable to a WordNet-like approach fortwo reasons.Firstly, legal experts claim that, despite their utility, WordNet-like resources arenot completely adequate because words are organized as hierarchies or taxonomies ofsynsets, whereas in FrameNet word senses are related to each other by means of links tocommon background frames. Secondly, the FrameNet-like approach is better becausethe lexical units that evoke a frame are not restricted to a single part of speech, whichallows, for instance, the inclusion of verbs such as to conclude, nouns such as end andadjectives such as final in the [Process_end] frame (Venturi et al 2009: 5). Thirdly, thecase studies carried out so far have proved that the linking of a linguistic-oriented with adomain-oriented way of modelling is possible (Agnoloni et al. 2010). Their findingsshow that the mapping can be carried out at the Frame Element level or at the level oftheir lexical fillers.Although this project is still in an initial stage of development, the authorsalready pondered on the following customization strategies: the exploitation of domainspecificsemantic types which classify FEs from the general FrameNet repository, theintroduction of one or more new FEs within an existing frame, and the splitting with anew frame (Venturi et al 2009: 6).
