236For instance, in the English corpus to ren<strong>de</strong>r is a verb that <strong>de</strong>notes an action inwhich a judge or a court hearing a case transmits a <strong>de</strong>cision <strong>de</strong>claring who wins the lawsuit. This verb typically evokes the last part of the judgment or the ―Conclusion‖, in whichthe judges express their <strong>de</strong>cision. Consi<strong>de</strong>r the following contexts of the verb to ren<strong>de</strong>r:[1] The Superior Court ren<strong>de</strong>red judgment in that action in 2003 ([2003] R.J.Q.1189).[2] The Commissioner, it is important to keep in mind, is not a tribunal. She doesnot, strictly speaking, ren<strong>de</strong>r a <strong>de</strong>cision.Sentences [1] and [2] indicate who and who does not have the authority to ren<strong>de</strong>r ajudicial <strong>de</strong>cision, i.e. the Superior Court can ren<strong>de</strong>r a judicial <strong>de</strong>cision but theCommissioner cannot. So, although we did not find any terms that are morphological<strong>de</strong>rivatives of and semantically related to the verb to ren<strong>de</strong>r, the behaviour of it in thecorpus revealed that the nature of its actants as well as its meaning are highly specialized.For all these reasons, we <strong>de</strong>ci<strong>de</strong>d to retain this candidate term.5.1.2.2.3. Verbs without paradigmatic relationsWe did not find any relevant synonyms or antonyms of the verbs to adduce, to apply, toconstitute, to disclose, to presume and to proceed in reference works such as the BLDonline or in the corpus. Nevertheless, these verbs were selected because they meet all othercriteria and because we consi<strong>de</strong>red that they were relevant in the judgments. These verbscorrespond to 6% of the total number of verbs that we selected.For instance, the verb to adduce evokes the i<strong>de</strong>a of presenting evi<strong>de</strong>nce.
