2255.1.1. Portuguese termsCandidate terms were selected based on the criteria set out in section 2.3.2 as well as insection 4.2.2. We selected 75 verbs of the first 114 candidate terms proposed by TermoStat(Drouin 2003). As some verbs have more than one specialized meaning, the verbs that weselected correspond to 100 terms (Appendix 14). The following sections present thecandidate terms that we eliminated and the candidate terms that we retained as well as aclassification of the two.5.1.1.1. Eliminated candidate termsAbout one third (34.2%) of the Portuguese candidate terms were not retained, i.e. 39 out ofthe first 114 candidate terms automatically extracted by TermoStat did not meet thevalidation criteria set out in the research. Appendix 12 lists the eliminated candidate termsalong with their rank in the list elaborated by TermoStat, their frequency and specificity.As mentioned in chapter 4, there are two reasons why 34.2% of the Portuguesecandidate terms were eliminated. Firstly, some candidate terms correspond to erroneouspart of speech tagging due to part of speech ambiguities. For example, the Portuguesecandidate term aludir (to refer to) most often occurs in the corpus as an adjective <strong>de</strong>rivingfrom the past participle of the verb aludir:Tal sistema veio, então, com o aludido DL 39/95, a ser substituído pelo daoralida<strong>de</strong> mitigada, preconizado por Franz Klein, assim se permitindo um amplorecurso sobre a matéria <strong>de</strong> facto.
