XXXIIIFrame and <strong>de</strong>finition Core Frame Elements Lexical Units Frame relationsparticipants meet in or<strong>de</strong>r to <strong>de</strong>ci<strong>de</strong> a Case. TheProsecution attempts to prove that theDefendant is guilty of the Charges and theDefense tries to prove that the Defendant isinnocent. Trials have a rich schematic structurewhich is only partially represented here. TheTrial frame is the part of the Criminal Processframe that occurs after a crime, Arrest of asuspect, Arraignment, jury selection, etc. andbefore Sentencing and Punishment or release.The Trial is ma<strong>de</strong> up of court appearances. Thebeginning of the Trial generally involvesOpening Arguments, in which the Prosecutionand the Defense present their respective pointsof view. Then during the course of the Trial,both si<strong>de</strong>s present evi<strong>de</strong>nce, some of which isprovi<strong>de</strong>d by witnesses with testimony, and thisis then drawn upon as support for theirarguments.
