TheProsecution attempts to prove that theDefendant is guilty of the Charges and theDefense tries to prove that the Defendant isinnocent. Trials have a rich schematic structurewhich is only partially represented here. TheTrial frame is the part of the Criminal Processframe that occurs after a crime, Arrest of asuspect, Arraignment, jury selection, etc. andbefore Sentencing and Punishment or release.The Trial is made up of court appearances. Thebeginning of the Trial generally involvesOpening Arguments, in which the Prosecutionand the Defense present their respective pointsof view. Then during the course of the Trial,both sides present evidence, some of which isprovided by witnesses with testimony, and thisis then drawn upon as support for theirarguments.
