parts, of larger units deployed.) Figure 1 charts<br />

the number of exercises by year. Figure 2 enumer<strong>at</strong>es<br />

the training partners; <strong>and</strong> Figure 3 identifies which<br />

<strong>PLA</strong> Military Regions or PAP provided the main forces<br />

for the exercises. It is noteworthy th<strong>at</strong> not just “the<br />

best” or “showcase” units in the <strong>PLA</strong> <strong>and</strong> PAP have<br />

particip<strong>at</strong>ed in these exercises.<br />
