<strong>The</strong> difference in helicopter <strong>at</strong>tack profiles was<br />

mentioned in another article noting “the Chinese <strong>and</strong><br />

Russian sides each used helicopters in its own way. In<br />

<strong>at</strong>tacking the enemy, the Chinese helicopters would<br />

generally pull up, then dive <strong>and</strong> fire, then pull up<br />

again <strong>and</strong> withdraw. Russian helicopters would generally<br />

go straight in <strong>and</strong> straight out, fire directly <strong>at</strong><br />

the enemy, <strong>and</strong> then depart on a level flight p<strong>at</strong>h.” 72<br />

Pan Liangshi, comm<strong>and</strong>er of the 39th Group <strong>Army</strong>,<br />

“was deeply impressed by the Russian military’s ‘taking<br />

everything seriously.’ <strong>The</strong> Russian military strictly<br />

follows regul<strong>at</strong>ions <strong>and</strong> rules. . . . When cleaning<br />

<strong>and</strong> maintaining equipment, the Russian troops did<br />

not miss any key parts in the equipment th<strong>at</strong> could<br />

determine its tactical <strong>and</strong> technical performance. <strong>The</strong><br />

maintenance was meticulous <strong>and</strong> thorough. But they<br />

did not care too much about a clean <strong>and</strong> beautiful appearance<br />

of the equipment.” 73<br />

<strong>The</strong> Chinese side expended gre<strong>at</strong> efforts in providing<br />

a comfortable base camp for the Russian visitors.<br />

<strong>The</strong> large tent city was equipped with television, 24hour<br />

hot w<strong>at</strong>er, a bank, <strong>and</strong> two “supermarkets.” 74<br />

N<strong>at</strong>urally, “slogans <strong>and</strong> banners” were prepared to<br />

welcome their guests.<br />

Planning is underway for “Peace Mission-2010” to<br />

be held in Kazakhstan from September 9-17, 2010. According<br />

to Moscow Interfax, “up to 10,000 personnel”<br />

will be involved with the largest number provided<br />

by the Kazakh armed forces. “Russia <strong>and</strong> China’s<br />

contingents will be large, too.” 75 People’s Daily quotes<br />

the “famous Russian military comment<strong>at</strong>or Vladimir<br />

Muhin”:<br />
