CONTRACTOR shall install temporary fencing on either side <strong>of</strong> ROW where in<br />

COMPANY's opinion, it is considered essential to ensure safety and noninterference,<br />

especially in areas like grasing lands, villages etc.<br />

Fencing shall be removable type wherever necessary, to permit crossing <strong>of</strong><br />

traffic. The type <strong>of</strong> fencing must be suitable for the situation in accordance with<br />

user. The pole distance shall not be greater than 6m. The minimum height <strong>of</strong> the<br />

fencing shall be 1.2m above grade. Fencing can consist <strong>of</strong> one or more rows <strong>of</strong><br />

smooth wire and/ or <strong>of</strong> barbed wire.<br />

Fencing shall be continuously maintained and the thorough-ways inspected to<br />

be shut during the execution <strong>of</strong> the work.<br />

4.4 Row Clearing and Grading<br />

4.4.1 All stumps shall be grubbed for a continuous strip, with a width equal to trench<br />

top width plus two metres on either side centred on the pipeline centreline.<br />

Further, all stumps will be grubbed from areas <strong>of</strong> the construction Right-<strong>of</strong>-way,<br />

where Right-<strong>of</strong>-way grading will be required. Outside <strong>of</strong> these areas to be<br />

graded and the mentioned trench strip, at the option <strong>of</strong> CONTRACTOR, the<br />

stumps may either be grubbed or cut <strong>of</strong>f to ground level. Any stump cut <strong>of</strong>f must<br />

be left in a condition suitable for rubber-tyred pipeline equipment traffic.<br />

4.4.2 All grubbed stumps, timber, bush undergrowth and root cut or removed from the<br />

Right-<strong>of</strong>-way shall be disposed <strong>of</strong> in a manner and method satisfactory to<br />

COMPANY, land-owner and/ or tenant, and Government Authorities having<br />

jurisdication and as soon as practical after the initial removal. In no case, it shall<br />

be left to interfere with the grading and laying operations. Whenever stumps are<br />

grubbed and a hole is left in the ground, CONTRACTOR shall back-fill the hole<br />

and compact it to prevent water from gathering in it and creating a big hole.<br />

4.4.3 CONTRACTOR shall grade the pipeline Right-<strong>of</strong>-way as required for proper<br />

installation <strong>of</strong> the pipeline, for providing access to the pipeline during<br />

construction, and for ensuring that the pipeline is constructed in accordance with<br />

the good engineering and construction practices.
