Cutting <strong>of</strong> factory made bends and cold field bends for any purpose are not<br />

permitted.<br />

Each length <strong>of</strong> pipe shall be thoroughly examined internally and externally to<br />

make sure that it is free from visual defects, damage, severe corrosion (sea<br />

water pitting), dirt, animals or any other foreign objects. Each length <strong>of</strong> the pipe<br />

shall be adequately swabbed, either by use <strong>of</strong> canvas belt disc <strong>of</strong> proper<br />

diameter or by other methods approved by the COMPANY. Damaged/corroded<br />

pipes shall be kept separate. Each length <strong>of</strong> pipe shall be pulled through just<br />

before being welded.<br />

8.1 Pipe Defects and Repairs<br />

It is CONTRACTOR's responsibility to repair all internal and/or external defects.<br />

8.1.1 Acceptability <strong>of</strong> defects in the pipe detected during inspection at the work site<br />

shall be determined in accordance with latest edition <strong>of</strong> COMPANY's own<br />

material specification or CODE ANSI B31.8/B 31.4 whichever is more stringent.<br />

8.1.2 The maximum permissible depth <strong>of</strong> dents in pipes upto and including 12 3/4" OD<br />

is 5mm and for pipes over 12 3/4 " OD is 2% <strong>of</strong> the nominal pipe diameter.<br />

8.1.3 Dents which contain a stress concentrator such as scratch, gauge, arc burn or<br />

groove, and dents located at the longitudinal, spiral or circumferential weld shall<br />

be removed by cutting out the damaged portion <strong>of</strong> pipe as a cylinder.<br />

8.1.4 Repair on line pipe shall be executed as specified in COMPANY's material<br />

specification or Code ANSI B 31.8/B 31.4, whichever is more stringent. A record<br />

<strong>of</strong> all repairs is to be maintained by CONTRACTOR. This record, provided with<br />

the pipe identification number is to be submitted to the COMPANY.<br />

8.1.5 If due to cutting or repairs, the pipe identification number is removed, it shall be<br />

reprinted immediately by CONTRACTOR in the presence <strong>of</strong> COMPANY. In the<br />

event, the CONTRACT provides for supply <strong>of</strong> line pipe by COMPANY,<br />

CONTRACTOR shall be charged for any pipe length due to loss <strong>of</strong> identification<br />

number. No pipe without identification number shall be transported and/or<br />

welded into the pipeline.
